Twitter pulls the plug on mobile apps

Users of UberMedia’s Twitter apps for Android, iPhone and BlackBerry have found that their favourites have been shut out of the social networking service on Friday. Twitter claims it has does so because of policy violations in the way the company used its data.

The move affects mobile clients UberTwitter, Twidroyd and UberCurrent, meaning that BlackBerry users can now only the official Twitter app on their phone.

"These violations include, but aren't limited to, a privacy issue with private Direct Messages longer than 140 characters, trademark infringement, and changing the content of users' Tweets in order to make money," said Twitter in a statement to Techcrunch and ReadWriteWeb.

According to Twitter, the company has failed to address issues dating back to April 2010, so has therefore decided to pull the plug.

“We ask all developers in Twitter ecosystem to abide by a simple set of rules that are in the interests of our users, as well as the health and vitality of the platform as a whole,” the spokesperson confirmed to the sites. “We often take actions to enforce these rules; in fact, on an average day we turn off more than one hundred services that violate our API rules of the road. This keeps the ecosystem fair for everyone.”

UberMedia's CEO has told TechCrunch that:

“We just talked to Twitter and discussed the various issues they raise. It took us by surprise because they didn’t raise them before. We started making the changes”

We’ve also contacted UberMedia for an official statement and will update the article if we get a reply.

UPDATE: UberMedia has got in touch with Pocket-lint with the following comment attributed to their CEO Bill Gross:

"Early Friday morning, Twitter shut off access to its service by several of our Twitter client applications: UberTwitter, Twidroyd and UberCurrent. Twitter then notified us that they believed we were in violation of several provisions of their terms of service.

"We were immediately in touch with Twitter, and the changes they asked us to make were very small. As a result, we have completed the changes, and new apps are currently being posted to their respective stores. Twitter has assured us that as soon as those changes were complete, they would reactivate our applications.

"Twitter also asked us to modify the name of UberTwitter. We began a process of changing the name three weeks ago by polling our users, and we've decided, based on their input, to change the product name to UberSocial, which we completed today.

"To our millions of loyal users, we appreciate your patience during this temporary period. We look forward to continuing our innovations on the Twitter platform."

UPDATE 2: Further clarification from UberMedia has confirmed that Echofon hasn't been affected as we previously reported, even though it's an UberMedia product.

However, the company has confirmed that the apps that have been affected aren't back online yet. They will, hopefully, reappear soon, as "they [Twitter] are aware that we've made the changes."

Constantin Brancusi with Google
Google Constantin Brancusi`s

You might all worried about why Google has changed logo today because Constantin Brancusi`s birthday and we have found this interesting article and source on Wikipedia why Brancusi has been famoust in little village of Romania but interesting this small village was very popular with rich tradition of folk crafts specialy with wood carving and Geometric patterns of the region are seen in his later works.

Parents Nicolae and Maria Brancusi, were poor peasants who earned a meager living through back-breaking labor, and from the age of seven he herded the family's flock of sheep. He showed talent for carving objects out of wood and often ran away from home to escape the bullying of his father and older brothers. At the age of nine, Brancusi left small village and went to work in bigger and larger town.

At 13 he went to Craiova, where he worked at a grocery store for several years. When he was 18, impressed by Brancusi's talent for carving, his employer financed his education at the School of Crafts in Craiova, where he pursued his love for woodworking, graduating with honors in 1898.

He then enrolled in the Bucharest School of Fine Arts, where he received academic training in sculpture. He worked hard, and quickly distinguished himself as talented. One of his earliest surviving works, under the guidance of his anatomy teacher, Dimitrie Gerota, is a masterfully rendered écorché (statue of a man with skin removed to reveal the muscles underneath) which was exhibited at the Romanian Athenaeum in 1903.

Though just an anatomical study, it foreshadowed the sculptor's later efforts to reveal essence rather than merely copy outward appearance. You all need to know that his work has been very popular in Romania, France and United State with many others because his work was very well popular and he created Sleeping Muse and The Kiss which has been very famoust all over the World this days with gemetrical and sparse objects.

Constantin Brâncuşi

Worldwide fame in 1933 brought him the commission of building a meditation temple in India for Maharajah of Indore, but when Brâncuși went to India in 1937 to complete the plans and begin construction, the Mahrajah was away and lost interest in the project when he returned.

Sadly died on March 16, 1957 at the age of 81 leaving 1200 photographs and 215 sculptures. He was buried in the Cimetière du Montparnasse in Paris. Also located in that cemetery are statues carved by Brancusi for several fellow artists who died; the best-known of these is "Le Baiser" ("The Kiss").

Happy 135th Birthday, Constantin Brancusi with Google and we should be all happy that Google reminds us many special arts all over the World, certainly we should see more like this from Google because everyday can be a fun to learn something new this days over the internet.

Scottish Deerhound Named Best in Show

Scottish Deerhound Named Best in Show

A Scottish Deerhound trotted away with the big prize at the prestigious Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show on Tuesday night. The female, named Foxcliffe Hickory Wind, is the first of her breed to win the big prize, and topped her own showing of third place in last year’s competition after apparently getting used to the big city. “This dog isn’t used to cities or venues this size,” said her handler, Angela Lloyd, referencing the show’s setting at New York’s Madison Square Garden. “It is used to chasing squirrels and deer all day on a big farm.”

Is Pujols Worth $300 Million? No; Does It Matter? No

Is Pujols Worth $300 Million? No; Does It Matter? No

St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols is asking to be the richest player in baseball, topping the 10-year, $275 million the New York Yankees gave to Alex Rodriguez.

Should the Cardinals pay him that money? Probably.

Is he WORTH it?

Heck no.

The only players that are worth it in baseball are often players who make less than $2 million a year and have a material impact on the team’s ability to win, draw a crowd and get postseason money. Pitchers, like Stephen Strasburg, are easy to figure out. More than 10,000 fans come to see him pitch versus when he’s not pitching. That math is easy.

Sluggers, like Albert Pujols are a bit harder to figure out. That is, other than to say that he is essentially the Cardinals. That means for the Cardinals to pay that type of money, it would be a defensive move, so as not to lose a huge amount of cash.

Think about Dan Gilbert and LeBron James. Before LeBron took his talents to Miami, the Cavaliers were worth $375 million. Today? Gilbert would be lucky to get $275 million for the team.

So, Albert Pujols can’t possibly generate $300 million for the Cardinals on his own. But could he keep the team from financially falling apart over the next decade? Yes.

I do think the Cardinals main rival, the Chicago Cubs, could make more sense of a $300 million signing of Pujols because they simply have a great capacity to generate more revenue.

Losing has finally started to hurt them. They filled Wrigley Field to 92 percent capacity last year, the most empty seats in the building since 2001. And, don’t forget, they do take a piece of the rooftop business, which also has seen a precipitous decline.

A World Series title would also be humungous to the Cubs, whose new owner Tom Ricketts is dreaming big with Wrigley Field renovations and they have the option to break out from their regional cable network to start a network of their own.

I still think Albert Pujols doesn’t make the Cubs $300 million. On a dollar for dollar, return on investment standpoint, these numbers just don’t make sense. Many top contracts don’t.

But players are like any asset in business. When companies are considering whether to buy or merge with another business, they are willing to pay a certain multiple of what they are actually worth to seal the deal. That's what the Pujols negotiation is about.

The prospects of turning things around and leading the Cubs their first title in more than 100 years, might just be enough for the Cubs to make it worth the price of doing business. And the prospect of losing their most marketable player might also make the Cardinals give Pujols what he wants.

"I still think Albert Pujols doesn’t make the Cubs $300 million. On a dollar for dollar, return on investment standpoint, these numbers just don’t make sense. Many top contracts don’t. But players aren’t like any asset in business, there’s an intangible there when factoring in the winning formula."

Esperanza Spalding: Grammy Award 2011 Winner For Best New Artist

Esperanza Spalding may have won the Grammy for Best New Artist, but some have reveled in her talent for years.

A 26-year old, classically trained jazz/chamber music fusion musician and singer, Spalding has been making headlines in the jazz world since before her 2006 debut solo album, "Junjo." Having attended the Berklee Academy of Music, where she immediately became a professor after graduating at 20 years old, she began to travel with well known jazz musicians -- and then, the President.

Showing prescient hipness, President Obama selected Spalding to perform at the Oslo City Hall when he accepted his 2009 Nobel Prize, as well as at a White House poetry jam.

"Chamber Music Society" is actually her eighth overall album, including her teenage band and collaborations with famous jazz musicians. But she's still excited to be considered Best New Artist.

"I feel really lucky that I got to be acknowledged on this stage in front of so many people who hopefully will get to experience my music, and I got there by doing what's really dear to my heart," she told the AP after her win.

To earn the Grammy, she beat out an impressive field, including teen idol Justin Bieber, rapper Drake and band Florence + The Machine. Beliebers, as Bieber's are known, hacked into her Wikipedia page after the upset win, making changes such as saying she won, "even though no one has heard of her."

Clearly, that's not the case.

WATCH:

NEW YORK -- From the time Esperanza Spalding appeared on the scene in 2005, the dynamic singer, bassist, composer and arranger has been heralded as jazz's next big thing. Her impressive musicianship has won her White House recital dates, praise from the likes of Stevie Wonder and Herbie Hancock, and critical acclaim.

But last year, as she prepared to perform in front of a huge mainstream audience at a tribute to musical mentor Prince at the BET Awards, she started to think about how the moment could catapult her into pop stardom.

"I was really on this mission, kind of in my mind, to figure out how I was going to take my music and make it accessible to the pop world. `How am I going to turn this into like an Alicia Keys thing?'" she recalled thinking.

But when she got to rehearsals with her famous counterparts - including her idol Keys - she decided fame had somehow warped the purity of their artistry, and she didn't want that happening to her.

"Every person looked like a California raisin - this incredibly delicious, tasty, captivating artist, who has a magnificent magnetism and a unique flavor about what they do and who they are, but all of that has just been sucked out in every direction. ... The industry has surrounded them with all of these superficial pyrotechnics and I think it's really sucked the life out of their creative spirit, and I find that really sad," she said in an interview a few weeks after the ceremony.

"I decided that I was just happy to be a visitor from the liberated realm of jazz, and I decided then, whatever happens, I always want to be surveyor of the territory," said Spalding, who grew up studying classical music in Portland, Ore., before switching to jazz in her teens. "I want to be the one deciding what my art means, how it's presented, even if that means not becoming a pop superstar."

It turns out that being a surveyor has brought her closer to her discarded goal.

Spalding, who released her third album, "Chamber Music Society," last summer, is a surprise contender for best new artist at Sunday's Grammy Awards in Los Angeles. She's competing against a field that includes Mumford & Sons, Florence & The Machine, Drake and perhaps the most pop of pop sensations, Justin Bieber. She's also set to perform on the show and host the Recording Academy's pre-telecast ceremony with Bobby McFerrin.

"It's exciting, I think it's inspiring for me. I guess I didn't realize that on a broader scale people were aware of my music," the 26-year-old said last month.

While popular audiences may just be getting to know Spalding, she's a star in the world of jazz. Her previous albums have been strong sellers and established her as the genre's bright future, and for good reason: She's a multifaceted performer. When she's not wowing audiences with a heavenly sounding soprano and scatting like the vets of old, she's impressing them with her bass playing (she also plays other instruments). So impressive were her musical gifts that after finishing the renowned Berklee College of Music in Boston at an accelerated pace, she became an instructor there when she was 20, making her the college's youngest faculty member.

Spalding expected less mainstream attention for "Chamber Music Society," which blends her classical roots with her jazz world.

"It was really focused on composition and the intimacy of classical music and jazz-improvised music, and to me, that seems like it would be received by a smaller audience, yet there it is with a nomination on such a broad field," she said.

Spalding is perceived as a long shot to win best new artist, but Gil Goldstein, who co-produced "Chamber Music Society," is hopeful voters will recognize her unique gifts.

"I've been kind of joking, saying it would be nice that if once in a while, the best new artist would be someone who reads and writes (music)," he said, laughing.

"It would be like a real breakthrough victory if she would win, sort of like when Herbie won album of the year," he said, referring to Hancock's surprise win in 2008 for the album "River: The Joni Letters."

If the upset does happen, don't expect Spalding to alter her musical path. After her brief flirtation with wanting bigger stardom, she's more determined than ever that the most important thing she can do is make good music.

"The music that I make is pretty sincere; it's from my heart and I love it, and what just happened is more people have started to connect with my heart, and I haven't followed some kind of marketing scheme," she said.

And she hasn't let her Grammy nomination change her life, either.

"I'm going to buy a dress that I wouldn't have normally bought to go to the awards ceremony," she said, "(but) I still take the subway ... things are pretty much as they were before."

What Happened to CBS2 Reporter Serene Branson Last Night?

What Happened to CBS2 Reporter Serene Branson Last Night?
Serene Branson Speaks Gibberish at Grammys

It was the post-Grammys "flub" heard 'round the world--or at least the Twitterverse. Local CBS affiliate reporter Serene Branson was live outside the Staples Center introducing a segment on the music awards show's "highlights and backstage coverage," and within moments, her speech went awry.

While viewers of the telecast took to Twitter and Facebook to crack wise and "LOL" about Branson's garbled speech, what happened to the Emmy-nominated Los Angeles native is likely no laughing matter.

"It is feared that she may have suffered a stroke on air," reports the Daily Telegraph. Some reports indicate Branson was hospitalized, however "Branson may have merely been checked by EMT personnel and sent home with a friend, according to Kristin Cruz, co-host of the Mark & Kristin Show on KOST 103.5 in Los Angeles," notes the NY Daily News.

CBS2 has not made any statement about Branson, and what really happened remains speculation.

Radiohead To Release “World’s First Newspaper Album”

The band announced that its new album, King of Limbs, will be available for download February 19, on its website this morning. Described as the “Newspaper Album,” King of Limbs comes in the form of two 10-inch vinyl records in a “purpose-built record-sleeve,” a CD and “many large sheets of artwork, 625 tiny pieces of artwork and a full-colour piece of oxo-degredeable plastic to hold it all together.” The price for the hard copy: $48 when sold with an MP3 download of the album, and $53 when sold with the WAV download. The discs and vinyls will ship May 9, while the digital downloads will be available February 19. Customers also have an option to purchase the album in download-only form.

The move comes after Radiohead challenged music industry pricing with its October 2007 release of In Rainbows. While a “discbox” version of the album was sold for an established price, the group initially offered the album for download on its website for free, giving fans the option of paying whatever they wanted for the music. The group initially netted an average of $8 per album sold. Two months later, the album became available on iTunes for $9.99.

This time around, Radiohead is taking a more conventional route with the pricing of its digital download. The full album is available for $9 over its website for an MP3 version and $14 for the WAV version.

Grammy nominations 2011 for best cleavage: Miley Cyrus and Kelly Osbourne compete pre-Grammys

Grammy nominations 2011 for best cleavage: Miley Cyrus and Kelly Osbourne compete pre-Grammys
And the Grammy winner for best cleavage is...Miley Cyrus!

The "So Undercover" star was anything but at the 2011 pre-Grammy Gala and Salute to Industry Icons at the Beverly Hilton Hotel on Saturday in a dress that left little to the imagination.

Cyrus' pink dress included a mesh window that showcased what appeared to be the 18-year-old singer's bra-less chest, while "Undercover" co-star Kelly Osbourne's lace black dress with a sheer top showed off her black bra.

Ahead of the Grammy Awards 2011, Miley Cyrus and Kelly Osbourne attend the 2011 Pre-GRAMMY Gala and Salute To Industry Icons Honoring.

While the lower portion of Osbourne's dress was opaque, Cyrus' dress also showcased some mesh material around her thighs, though an opaque material down the center kept her entire body from being on full display.

Sony Xperia Play 'PlayStation Phone' Launching in March on Verizon

BARCELONA - Sony Ericsson on Sunday unveiled the Xperia Play, also known as the "PlayStation Phone," as well as two more new Xperia smartphones, the Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro.

The Xperia Play will launch in the U.S. in March on Verizon Wireless, Sony Ericsson said during a press event here at Mobile World Congress. Pricing was not announced.

The Xperia Play will run Google Honeycomb. It is the "first mobile device to deliver an immersive gaming experience," said Bert Nordberg, president of Sony Ericsson.

At launch, the Xperia Play will have 50 titles available, which will increase on a weekly basis, Sony said. That includes "Guitar Hero," "Assassin's Creed," "Battlefield," and "Dead Space."

Late last month, Sony unveiled the PlayStation Suite, which will bring PlayStation content to Android phones. The Xperia Play is the first phone to feature PlayStation Suite, which will provide content through a PlayStation Network Store that Sony plans to launch by year's end.

Sony also promised social-networking components that will allow Sony Xperia users to play against one another.

There have been rumors about the "PlayStation phone" for months, but Sony was mum until a splashy Super Bowl ad confirmed its existence. "The smartphone with everything you need and the one thing you want," according to the tagline. The ad takes place in dark room off a back alley where a man appears to be operating on someone. He eventually starts to pull gauze off the patient's hands, and we see that he has attached thumbs to the green Google Android character. The Android makes his way to the street, thumbs attached, apparently ready to start gaming on the Android-based Xperia Play phone.

At CES this year, Sony Ericsson unveiled the Xperia Arc, a big (4.2-inch screen), slim (only 8.7mm) slab phone running Android 2.3 on a 1Ghz Qualcomm second-generation Snapdragon processor. Sony said that device will start shipping worldwide in March, but also added some new additions to the Xperia lineup - the Xperia Neo and Xperia Pro.

The Xperia Neo features an 8-megapixel camera, and a mobile Bravia engine, Sony executives said. As a result, Sony talked up the TV-related features, including HDMI access and support for HD video as well as the ability to use the Neo as a TV remote.

The Xperia Pro includes a slideout QWERTY keyboard, inspired by the company's X10 Mini Pro. The Xperia Pro includes a feature known as "smart keyboard," which will intuitively guess what application you want to use. If you're looking at e-mail, for example, and slide out your keyboard, the Pro will switch to a "reply" function.

The Xperia Neo and Pro will both run Android Honeycomb. Pricing was not announced.

Stay tuned for more hands-on images from Sunday's event.
