Although no one knows what they look like, everybody has heard their music. Daft Punk is probably the most famous French band abroad.
The Parisians Guy-Manuel de Homem Christo and Thomas Bangalter met at school . Both music and film fans, they grew up to the sound of Jimi Hendrix, Motown and the Beach Boys. Aged 17, they form their own first band 'Darlin', and release a first single on Stereolab's music label 'Duophonic'. Then they changed their name to Daft Punk and began to add techno and house to their music.
In 1995 they had their first hit single with "Da Funk" and they support the Chemical Brothers on tour. "Around the World" followed, with a video by Michel Gondry, and then the "Homework" album, which sold more than a million copies worldwide. Four years later, the duet came back with "Discovery", and a live album called "Alive 1997".
In 2003 "Interstella 5555: The Story of the Secret Star System" was produced. This cartoon film was written by Daft Punk and the pictures were drawn by Leiji Matsumoto, the man behind the Discovery videos. A few months later, a remix album 'Daft Club' was released. Another album is due out soon.
