Kawah Putih is the most famous tourist spot in Bandung. Located in Ciwidey, West Java, Indonesia, approximately 50 KM south of the city of Bandung, Kawah Putih is a lake formed as a result of the eruption from Mountain Patuha. True to its name, the land in this area is white due to the mixing of elemental sulfur. In addition to white-colored soil, water lake Kawah Putih area also has a greenish-white color and can change color according to the contained sulfur content, temperature, and weather.

History of Kawah Putih
The story of Kawah Putih began in the 10th century where there was a great eruption by Patuha. After this eruption, many people assume that this location is haunted area because each bird flew past the area will die.
Over time, these beliefs about haunted places faded, until finally in 1837 there was a botanist with German nationality came to the region to conduct research. Researcher named Dr. Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn is very interested in the desolate mountain area which is not even a bird on it so he went around the village to search for information. At that time, all the information he got was that the area was inhabited by austere and spirits.
For Dr. Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn, the local community statement does not make sense. Because it does not believe these stories, he went into the jungle to find out what was there. Long story short, finally Dr. Franz Wilhelm Junghuhn reached the top of the mountain, and from there he saw where a beautiful lake is white with a pungent sulfur odor.
Since then, the existence of Kawah Putih Ciwidey become famous and start of 1987, the government develop the area as a tourist spot that offers a unique experience to see the lake that can change color.
